Since men and women have different body structures, fat accumulation may be concentrated in different areas. Thanks to developing technology, liposuction applications can be performed to cover an increasingly wider area.
Liposuction surgery begins by marking the areas desired by the patient and numbing these areas with local anesthesia. Thanks to local anesthesia, the patient can follow the course of the surgery painlessly. However, if the amount of fat to be removed from the body is high, general anesthesia, which requires hospitalization, may be preferred. Medications that provide relief may be given for the patient’s comfort during surgery, but this is usually the case for patients who prefer local anesthesia.
The surgery is initiated through long and thin tubes inserted into small incisions. The softened or liquefied fat mass is vacuumed away from the body through tubes called cannulas. A special corset is used to prevent sagging, swelling and fluid accumulation after liposuction. Surgery time varies depending on the amount of fat mass to be removed. A long surgery can often take up to 5 hours, but a short liposuction surgery can be completed in as little as 45 minutes. During the surgery, small incisions are made in the patient’s preferred areas.
